Keeping Connected to Friends

Plenty of research has been done about the importance of social support or staying connected to people who care about us.

But you probably know that already.

Our friends make us laugh.  They remind us life is more then work, and they help us feel connected to something bigger then ourselves.

Short story: friends matter.

So value this important resource in your life. Follow these tips to keep friendships strong:

1. Just do it.

Life can get busy and there may be a risk that busyness gets in the way of catching up. Even if it’s an effort, make time to catch up with your friends face to face. Liking an Instagram photo or FB post is NOT enough.

2. Be a friend to others.

Instead of neglecting friends because they didn’t bother calling you, rise above this and be the one to keep the ball rolling. Don’t keep score, just keep in touch.

3. Eyeball them.

Social media is a great way to stay connected, but it’s a bit like viewing the game rather than playing the game. While fun, it’s not quite the same.

Make sure you actually see your friends face to face. It doesn’t have to be a big deal. Even a quick catch up after work at Maccas is enough.

Connecting with people comes more easily to some than others. Some of us are introverted, which means making connections is harder work; more draining. You still need connection though.
